Have You Ever Wondered What Prompts Change?

What sparks transformation? Those pivotal moments that turn our world upside down, the life-altering decisions that seem like an ending—only for us to realize years later that they were the beginning of something new.
Change comes in many forms. But have you ever noticed a pattern? Do your biggest shifts tend to happen around the same time of year? I never paid much attention to timing until I was introduced to astrology. For some, it’s no surprise to hear me talk about it. For others, it might be unexpected. Whether you're a believer or a skeptic—like I once was when a close colleague convinced me to meet with her astrologer—there’s no denying that the universe, with its ever-changing planetary alignments, has a profound impact on us.
Eclipse Season: A Time of Transformation
This month, we will witness two eclipses. Spring is already known as a season of renewal, but I hadn’t connected my personal transformations to eclipse season until I took a closer look. Some of the most significant transitions in my life—career changes, endings of relationships, or moving to a new place—have happened around this time.
Eclipses push us out of complacency. We see the truth more clearly—the friend whose snarky remarks no longer feel like harmless jokes, the person we once relied on but now realize never had our back. Once we open our eyes to reality, there’s no turning back. It can feel lonely, but deep down, we know it’s time to move forward.
Collective Awakening: The End of Gaslighting
I believe we are collectively waking up. We’re no longer blind to manipulation—whether it’s a boss normalizing a toxic work environment where employees break down in tears or a politician shifting blame instead of taking accountability. The façade is crumbling.
I’ve experienced this shift firsthand. Early in my career, I was praised for my “resilience” in dealing with difficult superiors. I was told that enduring toxic leadership would lead to opportunities. If I could coach my younger self, I’d tell her she never had to tolerate mistreatment to prove her worth. Thankfully, I later had the privilege of working under emotionally intelligent leaders who supported their teams. They understood that true leadership is about nurturing growth, not breaking people down.
Living My Values in Career and Life
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to live by my values—even when it’s difficult. As a career coach, I encourage my clients to assess workplace culture before accepting a job offer. I also advise them to leave toxic environments that harm their well-being. But if I wasn’t following my own advice, how could I ask them to?
I recently faced this exact dilemma. I had an opportunity that seemed great on the surface but clashed with my values. Walking away was not easy—but it was the right decision. I left with dignity, offering feedback on how the organization could improve workplace culture.
Recognizing Who Deserves a Place in Our Lives
Not everyone is meant to stay in our lives. Have you ever noticed that some people seem irritated after spending time with you? It may feel personal, but often, it isn’t. Their reaction says more about them than about you. Sometimes, what we thought was a kindred spirit no longer fits.
Recently, I revisited a place I hadn’t been since before the pandemic. I worried that the people who once welcomed me so warmly had moved on. While there were some new faces, I was overjoyed when familiar ones greeted me by name. Their happiness at my return made me feel at home.
Some souls are meant to be in our lives—no matter how much time passes. The moment I reunited with a dear friend, we embraced, smiled, and felt at peace. As we caught up, time seemed to stand still. Seeing the joy in the faces of those who remembered me filled my heart.
Who Deserves Your Time?
These moments make me reflect: Who do I give my time to? Time is our most valuable resource, yet we often waste it on people who don’t cherish us. It’s my hope that, moving forward, we all recognize our worth. We deserve to be valued, respected, and treated with care.
Whether in the workplace, within friendships, or at home—cherish those who uplift you and ensure you are cherished in return. There are people out there who would treasure your presence. Maybe it’s time to make room for them.
