As a strongly independently soul since childhood, I can tell you even the strongest individuals need healing. In fact, the strongest of souls seek healing. At some point or another in life, we have encountered depression, pain, trauma or other challenges in life that have left a mark on our psyche.
We may have been raised in a family or a culture that discourages the outward expression of emotion further burying the pain. Our buried trauma and pain often carry into our adult life and relationships. Not dealing with the pain and trauma of the past can affect our self-confidence, self-love, relationship with ourselves and our ability to achieve our dreams.
‘It is in the past’ we often tell ourselves; we are adults now or time has gone by. Yet how many times are we triggered by conversations at family functions? How often do we avoid speaking our mind and setting boundaries with those who frequently hurt us? What is our body speaking to us in the way of throat issues, stomach problems or other health issues that indicate we are holding on to heavy emotions that are asking for release?
I am not here to advocate a particular kind of treatment or therapy. I will tell you that as a child somehow, I intuitively knew I needed to get out my deepest emotion and pain by writing in my diary or poetry. I felt the immense release as all those intense emotions were on paper and it was only when I stopped expressing myself in that way that I fell into a deep depression and had thoughts of suicide as a teenager.
I truly believe when you are ready to heal the universe connects you with those that can assist. Whether it is a new yoga class you take, a video on YouTube that touches you and speaks about a certain therapy, someone suggests you try hypnosis, a past life regression or a book that moves you to think about speaking to a counsellor, you owe it to yourself to heal those wounds and see what a glorious a soul you are.
You deserve to feel whole and know that whatever took place as difficult as it was, you are here today as a shining example of the strength of the human spirit. Know that today can be better if you start to deal with the pain that comes up and creates that knot in your throat when you see a news story that reminds you of a similar situation you faced.
I can tell you from experience healing is not going to make the situation disappear from your memory. It will however in time, make the memory less painful when it comes up and that alone is a reason for healing. You owe it to yourself to find joy in the simplicity of a sunny day, to be able to walk in serenity or sit in silence knowing you don’t have to play music or keep busy to avoid sad thoughts or memories.
The best part about healing is how great it feels to be able to share your story to help others and have the satisfaction of it not stinging like a festering wound. Instead, you can smile and say ‘I can now tell this story without crying or getting angry’ encouraging others that they will one day be able to do the same. I truly believe that we can contribute to healing others by sharing our journey especially if it is in helping them to see they are not alone in their experience.
In a world where people post their best experiences on social media, often these posts serve to isolate many who fail to recognize you cannot believe all you see. Let us be honest with ourselves and with one another and talk about our hard times and ask for support when needed.
The one drastic change I recognized when I began to truly heal from my childhood and past relationship pain was how my relationships changed. I no longer enjoyed drama and actually began to establish healthy boundaries explaining to family and close friends that as I respected them, I expected the same in return. Some understood and others walked away. As isolating as it was at times it actually made room for more sincere quality relationships and my true tribe started to form.
I started to see the benefits of respecting, loving and honouring myself as I also began to attract friends and relationships of people I deeply admire and love. I truly believe in energy and if we are in a toxic state of mind or way of life, we will only attract what we are in the way of relationships and circumstances.
So, in all honesty, none of us can afford not to heal the wounds of the past. In fact, it is far more painful to hold on to the wounds as opposed to taking the time to find an ointment to heal. It may be a slow but steady process, there may be times where it doesn’t feel like you have made any progress at all. Know that new life sprouts in silence, healing is taking place.
You owe it to yourself, the beautiful soul you are to heal and enjoy this precious journey with zest and vigor. It is only by healing your heart that the path you walk will glow in vibrant colour and you will be able to laugh with abandon.
The world needs healing. As much as humankind has progressed in modern medicine, technology and can travel to anywhere in the world, even to space the world is in crisis. We are hurting as human beings more than ever before and the pain is so great and so numbing that some even hurt others on a mass scale. The safest of towns and cities are now plagued with shootings, terrorist attacks, and messages expressing hatred towards religious, racial or LGBT groups are seen on buildings and homes. These are all symptoms of deep pain and fear and a lack of recognition that our society as a whole is crying for healing.
I am a firm believer that how we can help personally as an inhabitant of this planet is by healing ourselves first. We can model this healthier state of being to the world and be of service to others that are open to healing. Whether we encourage a neighbour who is struggling with depression to seek help or help the teenager we see on the street know we understand what it is like to feel alone and listen to them. There are precious souls on this planet that take their dogs or pets to seniors’ homes, shelters or other places to comfort those in difficult situations.
This world needs more love. It is our responsibility to start at home with loving the beautiful soul that greets us in the mirror every morning. Heal the one within and with that energetic connection alone that can send amazing vibrations into this world.
